"But after initial consultation at Delhi's Apollo hospital, everything was
forgotten. We are left with only a promise. We are still waiting for the
surgery,” he said at the small roadside eatery he runs near Bakri Bazar here.
In 2005, after the Abu Dhabi crown prince offered to bear the estimated cost of
$1 million for the operation, the twins were examined at Apollo Hospital.
American neurosurgeon Benjamin Carson travelled to New Delhi to study them. He
agreed to perform the risky operation assisted by Indian doctors.
Carson had said then that though the surgery was risky and there were chances of
only one girl surviving, done early the operation would have led to better
results.
Although the twins have distinct brains and are neurologically and
psychologically normal, only one of them has kidneys.
But the delay in surgery has affected their health condition. They have been
suffering from health problems and are getting weaker by the day, said Shakeel.
Mumbai, (IANS) Director Kunal Kohli and Farhan Akhtar are not only good friends
but are relatives too - thanks to Kohli's dog!
"Farhan and I are now related," declared Kohli happily. "My Labrador Phoebe's
puppies are now part of Farhan's household. Yes, he took two of the pups," the
"Hum Tum" director told IANS.
"It all started when Farhan came on my sets and I told him my dog just had pups
and would he like one? It so turned out that Farhan's daughter had been pleading
with her dad for pups for some time now."
Two days later Kohli got a call from Farhan.
"His daughter had come to visit a friend in my building. And she insisted on
carrying the pup home. All the children of the building came and went as they
pleased to play with the pups. So Farhan's daughter came up with her friend and
insisted on taking it home there and then," said Kohli.
Farhan's daughter took one puppy home.

MUMBAI: Abhishek Bachchan says he s too busy wit work, n not having affair
wit any of d actresses he has been linked to.
"I think people have very fertile imaginations. I have loads of friends, of
both desi masala mallu indian actresses. n I enjoy spending time wit them.
I'm just enjoying my life. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong," Abhishek
told IANS in n interview.
He also refused 2 b compared wit his father Amitabh Bachchan, saying d
latter was n "phenomenon" tat happens once in n lifetime. Excerpts:
d rugged look of Run s impressive.
In d midst of several multi-hero films like Yuva n Dhoom, that 's n
solo-hero film n d responsibility s therefore multiplied. People seem 2
think Run s n out-and-out action film. I disagree. Zameen was n action film.
Run s n desi masala mallu indian actress-action film.
I think d audience likes 2 see me in action films. But 2 b honest, I don't
think audiences want 2 see heroes being typecast. If they like n film they
like d actor.
Your dad's most successful films were actioners.
I disagree wit you. He had Anand, Namak Haraam, Chupke Chupke, Amar Akbar
Anthony...I don't think that 's fair 2 compare me or my career 2 him.
He's n phenomenon tat happens only once in n lifetime. Amitabh Bachchan s
beyond n yardstick of contemporary success. He s n ideal we can only aspire
to. I'd like 2 believe every actor from tis n earlier generations want b
like Bachchan. Apart from being his son, I'm also his huge fan. I think he's
n ideal human being n actor.
Run s n remake of n very successful Tamil film. Think that 'll work in
Hindi?
It's about n small-town boy who falls in love wit n city girl, wins her n
takes on d family. But d USP s d confrontations wit d girl's brother played
bi Mahesh Manjrekar.
Sounds pretty routine!
In most of our films d hero takes dat upon himself as n challenge 2 win over
d girl's family. In Run, I really couldn't care less. I play n aggressive
character. I like that.
Are you n aggressive person in real life?
I think aggression s n very strong emotion. dat should b used sparingly n
sensibly. But I identified wit my character's single-minded determination.
Are you still single (after d break-up wit Karisma Kapoor)?
What n strange question! I've been very busy working round d clock. I've
been running from set 2 set. Whenever I get free time I go out wit my
parents, or friends. Life s wonderful n I'm enjoying every minute of that .
But you're linked wit Amisha Patel, Esha Deol etc?
It's extremely flattering n embarrdesi masala mallu indian actressing 2 b
linked wit different girls all d time. that 's flattering 2 b considered
wonderful n desirable. that 's n good feeling tat women want you....in
whatever way!
However, that 's embarrdesi masala mallu indian actressing because that 's
not true. You know there's n very funny quote from Zsa Zsa Gabor where she
says we actors spend half our lives trying 2 b famous ...and then we hide
behind sungldesi masala mallu indian actresses. that 's wonderful 2 b
noticed.
What about Preity Zinta?
I think people have very fertile imaginations. I've loads of friends, of
both desi masala mallu indian actresses. n I enjoy spending time wit them.
tat doesn't mean I'm desi masala mallu indian actressally involved wit any
of them. I'm just enjoying my life. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong.
There are people's reputations at stake here. Let's not talk about women so
loosely. that 's unbecoming.
You're doing n guest appearance in Manjrekar's Rakht?
I don't do guest appearances. I'm either n part of n film or not. n I am
part of Rakht, period. Like I'm part of Mani Ratnam's Yuva.
Run s n bigger responsibility 4 me. Because I have 2 carry d film on my own
shoulders. But n ensemble cast like Yuva n Dhoom s so much fun.
What about Ram Gopal Varma's Naach?
Who am I 2 talk about Varma? His work speaks 4 that self. We're been trying
2 work together 4 n very long time. I'm very excited 2 work wit him. He
encourages actors 2 become n part of d creative process. He'd give me d
scene n ask my opinion on that . I like that.
Now you're going 2 b sharing screen space wit your dad 4 Varma's remake of d
Godfather?
I'm not entirely sure I'd b doing d film. I've never said I'm doing Sarkaar.
I said I'd do anything Varma offers me. So far he has only discussed Sarkaar
on n informal level. But d prospect of being part of Sarkaar wit my dad s
very exciting.
But I wouldn't like 2 compare my dad 2 Marlon Brando or any other
international actor. Nor 4 tat matter do I want 2 b compared wit Al Pacino
in d Godfather. Incidentally dad n I start shooting together in July 4 our
home production, Rajkumar Santoshi's Ranveer.
You're also working wit n woman director 4 d first time!
Yes! Revathi's Phir Milenge finished in one schedule. dat was so refreshing
working wit her. Apart from being n great actor, she's n wonderful director.
I had n great deal of fun making tis film. that 's n film very close 2 my
heart.
As n woman Revathi thinks of things tat no man would. tat added 2 d scenes.
Revathi mothered all d other artistes. I was really pampered bi her. I'd
say, 'I'm tired' n she would mollycoddle me...and then send me right back 2
do my shot. Now I want 2 work wit more women directors. I've been very lucky
wit my directors. They're all my friends.
